As you can see, it's a 1961 item, it's vintage and you may be able to find it complete on eBay. I was able to spot a really good one last week actually - HERE - as you can see it's over, but you can find good deals every so often like this one. It was a Barbie #3 with this outfit. Pictures are from the auction.
While in Walmart last week I notice this Holiday Barbie doll with a Walmart exclusive sticker on it and I couldn't figured it out at first, so I placed two of them side by side and noticed that the one "from Walmart" has also an ornament up in the left corner of the box. As you can see, the price is $39.97, nice add to any collection.
I actually saw the Caucasian version on this doll at the flea market going for $30.00.
Just giving you guys a heads up in case you'll buy this doll at Walmart.
As I "talked" about one of the days of our lives actresses last week - HERE, I have decided to mention Deidre Hall as Well. She played Marlena Evans on the show. She was the longest running actress on the serial.
Deidre Ann Hall /diːdrə hɔːl/ (born October 31, 1947) is an American actress best known for her portrayal of Dr. Marlena Evans on NBC's daytime drama Days of our Lives, which she played for 32 years. The character is considered an icon to the soap, and has experienced some of the most outrageous storylines in soap opera history.[1] She is also an ambassador for Operation Smile. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deidre_Hall
I don't think any other Barbie dolls were made based on the show, I was not able to find there's one.
Just as Erica Kane, Marlena Evans had her doll on 1999 as well. As I don't have the doll, these pictures are from eBay.
The doll is a recreation of Marlena Evans when she married John Black. Her dress is a very light blue (I wouldn't know just by looking at internet pictures) with a soft scallop trim, there's also a cascade of white tulle falling from her shoulders. She holds a nosegay of white flowers.
Seems to me, Mattel tried to "copy" the actress face, but wasn't too successful on that...
My inspiration for this week was the talk Barbie doll. As she was just a inspiration (Sometimes I have no idea what to do, and by looking at Barbie picture's faces, the images begins appear on my imagination) I got the beautiful dark blue from this one and made this all blue eye makeup. Look at the results and I really like it!
So as I have mentioned on the post before I was browsing at stores last couples of days. I was actually looking for some outfits for the naked Barbie dolls I have, but I was disappointed with the outfits prices.
A set with 3 different outfits was more expensive than a very cute dressed doll!!!I don't get it!
So, why Am I going to buy three outfits before actually getting a doll? I didn't buy neither, but If I have to pick of course I would go with the doll. Just to mentioned, Barbie dolls outfit prices on eBay are way overpriced (90's outfits) as well, that was the reason I went to stores, maybe I would find something on clearance or something... I don't know what's happening!
I just want to share some products on stores now...
I'm no a big shopper person, I usually go with my husband, I prefer to buy online, but it's nice every so often to go there and actually see the doll before you buy it. Actually, have you see the new dolls how well articulated and cute they are? I'm impressed with the eyelashes, I so want to buy one and open the box!!!
According to Fashion Doll Guide, this was one of the three outfits made for Barbie dolls back on 1959 (I didn't know that - One of the reasons I do the Vintage Wednesday as i can search and learn more about it). The original set contained:
1 - A dress
2 - A white Belt
3 - A striped coat
4 - A hat
5 - A necklace
6 - White gloves
7 - A Clutch Purse
8 - A hanky
9 - A pink Comb
10 - Black Shoes
11 - Glasses case
12 - Compact
13 - Black glasses - Not showed
It must be rare to find in a good condition as it's a over 50 years item, but you may be able to get the pieces separately on auctions, just be patience, some items are tiny and easy to lose so they may be very hard to find. I was not able to find any complete set on eBay. Also, I saw an auction selling the set with a regular high heels black shoe, the original is an open toe, so it's nice when you know what you are selling/buying as I didn't see any indication in the auction saying it was not part of the set at all, just give a hands up...in case you are looking for things like this.
I remembered an America Idol Barbie I have stored at my father's in law house as I found some auctions on eBay, when looking for some pieces for those Barbies I have got from the shed. I'm not a big fan of these types of shows, so I didn't get the doll for that reason. Years ago looking for a gift for my niece as I was going to Brazil I found one of these dolls at Walmart on the clearance section. Her name was Simone, I got two of the same one, one for me and one for her. Well, I'll tell you what happened later.
American Idol is an American reality-singing competition program created by Simon Fuller and produced by 19 Entertainment, and distributed by FremantleMedia North America. It began airing on Fox on June 11, 2002, as an addition to the Idols format based on the British series Pop Idol and has since become one of the most successful shows in the history of American television.
For an unprecedented eight consecutive years, from the 2003–04
television season through the 2010–11 season, either its performance or
result show had been ranked number one in U.S. television ratings.[3]

The biggest surprise of all these auditions was Susan Boyle - We all know that!!! - It was a slap on our faces, because no one believed she was all that!!Glad for those, she has an amazing voice!!!
Anyways, let's talk dolls?
This was the commercial for the dolls , it's in Spanish, but they are the same dolls.
2005 was the year picked to bring the singers out to became a celebrity. Barbie and her two friends, Simone and Tori could show all her talents for a chance to be famous.

Simone
OK great! The dolls all had a little karaoke, a stage, extra outfits and accessories. It seemed really fun toy to give as a gift, remember that I was talking about my niece? well, she hated it!!!These dolls has is one of the worst feedback on Amazon.com . See for yourself...
Please do not get me wrong. if you are one the leave dolls in their
boxes. SHE IS A BEAUTY. But i bought her to debox. it is horrible. her
legs are about an inch longer than a normal doll so regular clothes DO
NOT fit her. Her waist is molded in a permenant arch so she can NEVER
STAND STRAIGHT. if you would like to pics of this doll next to a regular
barbie please email me at tummiluvsdollies@yahoo.com - http://www.amazon.com/review/R3DXOHFH6108LW/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt#R3DXOHFH6108LW

this... THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - http://www.amazon.com/Mattel-G7998-American-Barbie-Simone/product-reviews/B000324YA2
Me? I was so frustrated too as my niece was very disappointed, because when she opened the box and saw that the doll couldn't move at all, from a happy, excited face, she had a "this is an awful toy" one. I felt so bad about it, that I ended up send two other Barbie dolls when I came back from Brazil.
Don't get me wrong, she's a nice add for any collection, but for display only, like mine, not to give as a gift for a kid to play with. I just don't know why, if she's one of the "regulars"dolls, she was made like this, it's just weird...
Not all celebrities dolls are as glamorous as should be huh?
Every year, my friends and I enjoy Halloween going to a costume party. so, I was looking around what to wear this year, no I'm not going as Barbie...but I was also looking around to see what there's for kids and i found some very cute ones.
Our histories are spanning like all of us, one of our own came from a comic book family, the dad a non-sport collector, previously owning a comic book store, passing from one to the next,a Star Wars passionate. Another of us is a girl with a big imagination living within the world of the perfect doll, Barbie(without the "fresh to be" tag). Another is still training to master that Super Saiyan plateau... With one more searching to find a cure for the mutant virus...
Anyway, if is or not, someone, us, you, our kids, always we have to keep up the comic book world, otherwise, if it stopped in the past, we would not be here, maybe this history of once newspaper turned CG would be forgotten...the good knowledge must always be existing...Come enjoy it!
