Real Size Barbie Doll

I'm sure you already saw somewhere something about real size Barbie, how she would be...well, looks like now she's real, I mean, in size, she is and I'm sure she would be very tall and slim, like the one just released by Mattel:

As I had mentioned before, I would be putting some new dolls from the Barbie catalogue. So"The Barbie Mannequin" is one of them. She's 6 feet tall and beautifully made just like most of them :-)

October Desktop Calendar

http://www.barbiecollector.com/news/calendar.aspx

Get yours, the month is almost over.

What? Black Canary Barbie?

Looking around I found some posts and opinions about the "Black Canary Barbie doll", referring to her as a "Prostitute Barbie". Well, I'm sure we have had "worse" toys out there than this...

Do you actually know where the "Black Canary" character comes from?

(http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Black_Canary) . She's a DC Comics Super Heroine that is known for her martial art skills and her "Canary Cry", a powered, sonic scream with the ability to shatter objects and incapacitate villains. Do you see any "sexual" reference in that? You can also find information at www.dccomics.com on Black Canary and her current role in the "Green Arrow and Black Canary" Comic book line.
There are different opinions about it:

“What kind of a message are we sending to little girls?” asks Mark Dice, founder of The Resistance, a Christian media watchdog group. “It's bad enough that young girls look up to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears as role models, and now they’re going to be playing with prostitute Barbie?”

“These dolls should be melted down and recycled,” insists Dice. “What’s next, a drug dealing Ken doll?”
( http://www.theresistancemanifesto.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=73:prostitute-barbie-should-be-recalled&catid=44:press-releases&Itemid=82 )
Elisabeth said “hell, no” she would not be giving it to her daughter. She said that girls need positive images, even in imaginary worlds. Sherri said Barbie used to have business suits or wear a safari outfit and you could tell your daughter they could be those things. She said that this Barbie just looks like a “ho.” Whoopi said that she didn’t go near Barbie as a child because she didn’t look like her. Joy said that Barbie did not like her, either, but looked like a bitch in her class at school. Whoopi said that this Barbie is not for six-year-olds and is for people who are fans of the comic book. Elisabeth said if you are an adult buying that, you’ve got some issues. Whoopi said that she was going to let it go because they don’t know what she is talking about. ( http://www.watchingtheview.com/the-view-july-17th-recap-jane-seymour-and-bobby-flay/ )

I do respect people's opinion, everyone thinks differently, especially when dealing with raising children. But, this opinion is also what we call diversity. I also have to mention that "the Black Canary Barbie" is a collector edition Barbie item, so not only is this particular Barbie doll not marketed to children, but each parent must do their own judgment about buying any toy, we, as adults, cannot forever protect our kids from seeing or learning things that we don't want them to learn, we live in a society, where visual communication is really big, look at what is broadcast on TV, published in magazines, around outdoors, or even at a friend's house? Have you ever seen a Bratz doll? Well, as I said, everyone has a different opinion, but we can't control what ours kids will learn or see out there, but we can definitely teach them what is right and what is wrong.
Imagine, if we did have to stop our lives, just to watch out for the future generation, if that's the case, then let's just burn the world and build a new one!
"Teach them that character, talent, a sense of modesty and a sense of their own value is just as important if not more important than appearance. Teach them that they are special and not made to be ogled by some bystander,” Liebau said.Read more: http://newsok.com/cultures-often-clash-when-parents-students-decide-whats-appropriate-to-wear/article/3275016/##ixzz0UsD1YzOW

Nothing against Barbre Streisand...I actually remember being a kid and watch her movies, I still do! Also, she's a legendary singer, has 30 platinum albums and a couple of Oscars to her credit, and is the top-selling female artist in American music history. But, I really thing something doesn't look right with the doll, honestly, When i saw it, I didn't remember Barbre at all, I don't know, maybe because I didn't see the doll yet, I don't have it...But for me she looks a little off. Well, one more Pink label Barbie doll, I'm sure a true delight for fans and collectors alike!

"The Barbie Shop at Mall of America"

It's only around this time that I wish i lived in MN , seems like a lot "Barbie staff" happens around there because the Barbie Shop on the Mall of America. Well, if you are the fortunate way, keep a eye open for the next months, for this month is passed, but on November there are two days than "The Barbie Shop" will have something going on for the Barbie Doll fans. For more information: http://www.barbiecollector.com/news/news.aspx?news_id=216#

"Real features Barbie Doll"

I have mentioned the new Mattel line before, but i just had a click about this today. I think Mattel is trying to get more and more to the "real girl world". The company recently released a African - American of Barbie dolls that actually brings more authenticity for what they represent.

"The dolls, which are part of the "So In Style" line have "fuller lips, a wider nose, more distinctive cheek bones and curlier hair," according to the world's biggest toymaker."http://www.nw32.com/news/ktla-black-barbies,0,5528964.story

"So in Style celebrate the diversity of African-American Girls and
encourage positive themes" (Mattel)

That's great to have a business trying to work on the diversity/inclusion
discussion. We have to agree that everyone is different and with globalization we
do deal with a LOT different backgrounds. Way to go :-)

Looking for Barbie Costume?

A finding...

A funny and curious website, take a look!
http://www.pawcurious.com/category/pet-doctor-barbie/

Barbie of the month - October 2009 - Autumn Glory Barbie Doll

I was looking for a fall Barbie and I found this one!! She's gorgeous! The fantasy of fall is the inspiration for this dark-haired Barbie doll. She wears a charmeuse gown with petal layers in shades of glorious brown topped with a dark rust iridescent chiffon shawl. Golden earrings and soft rust-colored iridescent chiffon hair ornament complete the ensemble. Rich earth tones speak of autumn's abundance and the glory of each season.

Barbie Who?

Here it is another one... An easy one...

Did you guess?

Well, who said a 1996 Happy holiday Barbie for the "Barbie who " post did just right!

Midge: Barbie's best friend

Midge Hadley was first released in 1963. She had a fuller, gentler face mold that was less sexually intimidating than Barbie, although her body proportions were the same as Barbie and they both stood at 11 1/2 inches (292 mm) tall. This allowed the two dolls to be able to share clothes and accessories. She had "straight legs" that could not bend at the knee. A rare Midge with teeth was sold the first year and is now sought after by collectors.

One year later in 1964 the dolls that were sold had slightly longer hair.

Early in 1965, Wigs Wardrobe Midge was sold, and consisted of a Midge head with short molded hair and three wigs.

In 1965 Midge with bendable legs was introduced. She had shorter "bobbed" hair, like the American Girl Barbie, with a blue headband. Her swimming suit was different as well, and was now one-piece and striped.

She was know as Barbie's best friend until 1967, but only makes her next appearance in 1988 as California dream Midge.

The same mold, from the 1988 midge doll, was used to Coll time Midge doll.

She gets married to Allan in 1990.

Sea Holiday - Crosiere de Reve Midge doll from 1992.

In 1993 a reproduction Midge doll was released. A 30Th Anniversary version.

Barbie Hot Skating' MIDGE Doll - In-Line & Ice Skating (1994)

In 1997 a gift set was released as a Toys R Us exclusive. It was issued in honor of Midge's 35Th Anniversary.

1998 Barbie Doll Florida Vacation Midge.

In 2002 Midge as a mom, part of the happy family.
