Celebrity Monday - Reba Mcentire

Reba Nell McEntire (born March 28, 1955) is an American country music artist and actress. She began her career in the music industry as a high school student singing in the Kiowa High School band,[1] on local radio shows with her siblings, and at rodeos. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reba_McEntire

My first "contact" with Reba was on her very own show "Reba". When I came to the US, I used to watch a lot of TV in an attempt to try and improve my English, so Reba was one of the shows I used to watch at this time.  She was funny, intelligent, smart and very charismatic.  I'm pretty sure she must have a very similar personality in her real life or she's just one heck of an awesome actress!!

I didn't know she was a singer until my husband mentioned it, I am not a big fan of country music so I "Googled" it and found a couple of things about her:

  • Worked on the WPRA rodeo circuit for 10 years in quarter-horse barrel racing.
  • Almost didn't make it to her debut at the Grand Ole Opry on September 17, 1977. A guard at the gate didn't see her name on the list and refused to let her in. It took a call from her booking agent to resolve the problem.
  • Was offered the role of Molly Brown in Titanic, but had to decline due to scheduling conflicts.
  • Received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 18, 1998.
  • Served as a spokesperson for the Middle Tennessee United Way, the national 4-H clubs of America and Bob Hope's Hope for a Drug-Free America.
  • Has hosted the Academy of Country Music Awards more than 10 times.

In 2009, McEntire broke a CMA record when she surpassed Dolly Parton as the most nominated female artist in the 43-year history of the awards. With 48 nominations under her belt, McEntire continued to partner with other country music hitmakers like Kenny Chesney, Trisha Yearwood and Leann Rimes.  - http://www.biography.com/people/reba-mcentire-9542065?page=2

And, on the top of all this...  She's a beautiful woman!

No kidding Mattel recognized that she had earned a Barbie Doll honor:
The doll was released on 2011 and it's a pink label doll. I lime how the doll has red hair and a nice smile just like Reba's.

Hope you all have a great week!
