Vintage Wednesday - Barbie heads molds
Today, the post is not about Vintage Barbie Dolls but some of my own questions about identifying a Barbie doll, including not only the body I have decided to go step by step and start with the heads.
Most of us know how many transformations she has had been throughout the years... you don't even have to be a collector to notice it!
I have to say that "talking" about Barbie head molds is by itself the subject of a very long conversation, I'm sure it's a subject that would give us a book, so I may miss a few things here and there, so bear with me, lets learn together and try to put all the pieces, (in my own head), together.
Here we go... From 1959 to 1966 she used one basic head mold, (a small alteration for fashion queen and Miss Barbie dolls were then made).
From 1967 through 1976 she used four different head molds, (except for the Montgomery Ward doll, Twist 'N Turn, Stacey and Steffie dolls, these used the 1959 head mold).
And, since 1977 we had more head molds than we could ever hope to count... Anyways... Can't keep up with Mattel...
The introduction of differing Mattel "Barbie" lines vs. the traditional Barbie "pink box" lines, collectors lines, season holidays, friends, ethnic and world dolls, etc., have created an enormous amount of molds, casts, and very unique specimens. There really may be no way to actually categorize the likenesses from here on out...
Here some examples of different head mold:
Well, I think this is enough for a good start, I'll keep going on this for the next "Vintage Wednesday", besides as I mentioned before this would be a perfect topic for a whole encyclopedia entry, and a blog post won't do it alone!
But, we can try : )

Celebrity Monday - Reba Mcentire
Reba Nell McEntire (born March 28, 1955) is an American country music artist and actress. She began her career in the music industry as a high school student singing in the Kiowa High School band,[1] on local radio shows with her siblings, and at rodeos. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reba_McEntire
My first "contact" with Reba was on her very own show "Reba". When I came to the US, I used to watch a lot of TV in an attempt to try and improve my English, so Reba was one of the shows I used to watch at this time. She was funny, intelligent, smart and very charismatic. I'm pretty sure she must have a very similar personality in her real life or she's just one heck of an awesome actress!!
I didn't know she was a singer until my husband mentioned it, I am not a big fan of country music so I "Googled" it and found a couple of things about her:
- Worked on the WPRA rodeo circuit for 10 years in quarter-horse barrel racing.
- Almost didn't make it to her debut at the Grand Ole Opry on September 17, 1977. A guard at the gate didn't see her name on the list and refused to let her in. It took a call from her booking agent to resolve the problem.
- Was offered the role of Molly Brown in Titanic, but had to decline due to scheduling conflicts.
- Received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 18, 1998.
- Served as a spokesperson for the Middle Tennessee United Way, the national 4-H clubs of America and Bob Hope's Hope for a Drug-Free America.
- Has hosted the Academy of Country Music Awards more than 10 times.
In 2009, McEntire broke a CMA record when she surpassed Dolly Parton as the most nominated female artist in the 43-year history of the awards. With 48 nominations under her belt, McEntire continued to partner with other country music hitmakers like Kenny Chesney, Trisha Yearwood and Leann Rimes. - http://www.biography.com/people/reba-mcentire-9542065?page=2
And, on the top of all this... She's a beautiful woman!
No kidding Mattel recognized that she had earned a Barbie Doll honor:
The doll was released on 2011 and it's a pink label doll. I lime how the doll has red hair and a nice smile just like Reba's.
Hope you all have a great week!

Coming Soon - Empress of the Aliens Barbie Doll
Designed by Bill Greening, this Gold Label Barbie Doll will be released on June 21th of this year. Nothing to say as the wonderfully job done with this doll speak for itself. One more in the list...(There's a say in Brazil that when something is too expensive we say that cost the eyes, well, with my wish list growing, pretty soon I'll get blind LOL!)
She rules the far reaches of the fashion frontier in supreme style! Empress of the Aliens™ Barbie® doll wears an intriguing outfit of green, purple and black with metallic accents, while an elaborate headdress adds to her commanding presence. Her mysterious cat-like eyes suggest a connection to a faraway galaxy, giving her a look that’s light years beyond the ordinary! - http://www.barbiecollector.com/shop/doll/empress-aliens-barbie-doll-w3514
Hope you all have a great week!!!

Vintage Wednesday - Vintage #3 1960 Brunette Ponytail Barbie Doll
I don't know much about Vintage Barbie Dolls - this is one of the reasons I started "Vintage Wednesday" - so that every so often when I get confused about their names and classifications, I can make an attempt to research my confusion and update the community, (whom also may be as lost as I am!).
Hopefully I can help not only myself, but the community as well, for an example, I found these dolls with numbers in front of their name. I'm not too sure the meaning of it, (vintage #3, #4, #5), I have an idea about all this "mumbo jumbo", but I don't want to say something that I'm not really sure about, right? Hopefully, these posts can help shed some light for new fans and enthusiasts alike...
So, you can guess what the next "Vintage Wednesday" post may be about then...
Coming back to the present we have today Vintage #3 1960 Brunette Ponytail Barbie Doll. I'm not the author for theses pictures as I don't have the doll, they were found on an eBay auction:
This doll, #3 comes in Blondie and Brunette, she's an 850 model issued on 1960. Her original clothes were a black and white striped swimsuit (not showed on the pictures), white sunglasses, gold or pearl stud earrings and a black open toe heels. The one on this picture have a brown eyeliner, but she also was manufactured with blue eyeliner, which is rarer to find. So, get already for some digging if you want one :-)
Hope you enjoyed your Wednesday :-)

Style by Me - Create your own Barbie
Browsing around the Mattel website I found something nice for girls out there and I may get one myself - it will be nice something manufactured by Mattel with my name on it and, "created" by me :-) I'm talking about "Barbie styled by me" doll on Mattel.com. I don't know how old this is, I usually don't go on Mattel's website, my energies are usually spent on Barbie Collector.com, so sometimes I don't really know what's going on with the "regular dolls" unless I see it in department stores or on blogs.
So, for this doll you can choose her hair style, skin color, clothes - (the options that are given to you to choose from - I wasn't really impressed with it, but then again they are for kids, not for collectors), accessories, pick two more outfits - so you get 3 total and you can even create a shirt, for Barbie, with whatever you want to say on it, well... you have a limit of 9 characters... I copied and pasted the screen of the one I had created. I would like one though :-)

Have a great Tuesday :-)

Celebrity Monday - Clark Gable
"Everything Marilyn does is different from any other woman, strange and exciting, from the way she talks to the way she uses that magnificent torso."
I have talked about "Gone with the Wind" the movie on a Celebrity Monday post HERE before, but the whole talk was about the "girl". But, every so often the guys got to have their celebrity moment here too right? OK, Ken?
So, how about Clark Gable.
Who was this guy, anyways?
William Clark Gable (February 1, 1901 – November 16, 1960), known as Clark Gable, was an American film actor most famous for his role as Rhett Butler in the 1939 Civil War epic film Gone with the Wind, in which he starred with Vivien Leigh. His performance earned him his third nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor; he won for It Happened One Night (1934) and was also nominated for Mutiny on the Bounty (1935). Later movies included Run Silent, Run Deep, a submarine war film, and his final film, The Misfits (1961), which paired Gable with Marilyn Monroe, also in her last screen appearance. In 1999, the American Film Institute named Gable seventh among the greatest male stars of all time.[1] He was nicknamed 'The King of Hollywood.' - http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Terms_of_Use%20%282012%29/en?utm_source=TOU_topWell, with that look, I have to say, as a girl, "he wasn't a very handsome man", but he had something that I just can't explain, by looking at his pictures, I'm sure he had it... that look, like the one that I'm sure made him a "flirty" type of a guy back in the end of 30's and at the beginning of the 40's. He reminds me of those old movies about the war that had epic guys who swooned all the girls... well kind of like in "Gone with the Wind" for example...
Love these pictures...
Anyways, Mattel also created a Ken doll based on Gable's character in "Gone with the Wind" - Rhett Butler:
Ken as Rhett Butler - 1994
Clark Gable as Rhett Butler - 2001
Well, hoped you liked it, not too bad of an actor and a celebrity... and we were able to give Ken a few seconds of fame... but sorry Ken, next time its for the girls!
Have a great week!
