2013 Barbie Wall Calendar

If you like to look to your wall and see these beautiful sketchers of Barbie dolls, then you should get these. I didn't get it and don't plan do it so, but would be nice to have one :-)

 The nice thing about it: It's a 16 month calendar, it was released back in September of 2012.

Vintage Wednesday - Roman Holiday Barbie outfit

I first saw this outfit in Jennie D'Amato's book. One of the specially size made exclusively for Barbie in 1959.

The outfit package contained:
 -A red and white ribbed cotton bodice
 -A navy skirt with back zipper dress
-A matching coat with half red lining, gold buttons
-A white plastic belt
-A white plastic clutch purse
-A black open-toe pumps
 -A white short tricot gloves
 -A black rimmed eyeglasses with white eyeglass case
-A white plastic comb
-A white cotton unhemmed hankie, white pearl on chain necklace
-A red straw cord hat
-And a tiny brass compact with inside mirror and teensy pink cotton puff(this item, according to " fashion doll guide" is a very rare item.

Barbie Book by Jennie D'Amato - Barbie All Dolled up

Who's Jennie D'Amato? I didn't know her until I found this book - It was so cheap than I couldn't pass it -  at TjMax, a store where you find thinks than you don't expect, like this book?

She's a freelancer writer living in New York City. The book was a celebration of the 50 years of the doll. It shows how fashionable and pretty and girly Barbie is. It has a lot interesting information since the beginning (1959) to the present (meaning 2009 - published year)

Celebrity Monday - Jane Seymour as James Bond's girl "Solitaire"

As last week I had posted about Honor Blackman, one the James Bond's girls, this week to keep "the girls coming" I have decided to talk about  Jane Seymour. She has been very know from the James bond's girls movies:

 "In 1973, Seymour achieved international fame in her role as Bond girl Solitaire in the James Bond film Live and Let Die. IGN ranked her as 10th in a Top 10 Bond Babes list.[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Seymour_%28actress%29)

 

She had wrote some books and "given" her face for a British fashion label, but we already know the Barbie doll has "nothing" to do with the actress - she doesn't look like her and her name has not been mentioned on the doll description of the doll on barbiecollector.com, as most of these dolls.

This Barbie Doll is a Black Label, designed by Linda Kyaw and it was released in 2010.

The doll is stunning on these orange/redish and gold butterfly outfit. She brings tarot cards in her hands as she plays a card reader in the movie. Overall she's nothing but a pretty lady - Well at least the doll has something in common with the actress :-)

Makeup by friday - 2007 Barbie Top Model Hair Wear

Ok, this week I went with the 2007 Barbie doll from the Top Model Hair Wear collection.

And, the result:

 

Bob Mackie Brazilian Banana Bonanza Barbie Doll

Crazy for the makeup...

The first time i saw this beauty I really liked at first, but looking at her details made me think about a couple of things...

 1 -  She reminders me of Carmen Miranda, a famous performer from the 40's and 50's -

She was, by some accounts, the highest-earning woman in the United States and noted for her signature fruit hat outfit she wore in the 1943 movie The Gang's All Here. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmen_Miranda)
 

Don't get me wrong, she was a very talented woman, but it's like the doll was almost made based on her character on the movie, I mean the doll looks very much like her.

2 - Also, I know it's very, very hot in Brazil (at north of Brazil is hot all year around and in the South, you get some cold weather), but I don't like the fact that Brazil is a country related to nudity(most of the time...) Sure, we have the carnival, but why not a Carnival(Carnaval) Barbie doll then?
There's a Brazilian doll from 1990 very much like with the same characteristics:

3 - "She’s a glamazon from the Amazon, a Latin bombshell as hot and steamy as Rio." - this is from the description. I still think this should be a "Carmen Miranda" Barbie...yes, she has a glam from Amazon, but it's too glam...Do you remember this doll? She was a truly Amazon Barbie(in fact, people who are not from north of Brazil, where Amazon is located, call the people from there of Indians, I'm from that area, BTW and I'm very proud of it!).

OK! I'm not talking bad about this Barbie doll, she is BEAUTIFUL and I want her so bad...I just think she is "too general" idea of what Brazil is, maybe if the name was different, it would had fit a lot better.

OK, whatever, I'm just trying to be difficult in here, i guess...

Vintage Wednesday - BARBIE FLORAL PETTICOAT (1959-1963) #921

This set includes: An white full petticoat A white bra White panties A pink Comb A pink brush And, a hand mirror.

When I  fist saw this set I just thought about those huge dresses that the ladies used to use in the past - I think because thy also used under garments just like these ones, don't you remember gone with the wind? It's feminine, girly and very Barbiesh... It does look vintage!

The only thing...I don't think you would be able to brush Barbie's hair with this tiny brush and comb LOL - still cute!

I don't have it, but it would be a nice add to any collection.

Barbie Valentine 2013

This Barbie doll is the grocery and department store sold for 2013 valentines.

Target store also has the Kelly's exclusive for 2013 - If I'm lucky I may be able to get some after Valentine...we'll it!

Celebrity Monday - Honor Blackman as a Bond girl Pussy Galore in Goldfinger

Please, don't call me "stupid" because I didn't know the real name of one of the James Bond girls, I remember her face in the movie, a very pretty young lady, but seeing her today, I couldn't guess. It was a 1964 movie, aired in Brazil, middle 80's, me, a little girl, who didn't know anything about all this Bond world, the whole movie for me was just action... Growing up I was able to understand the story behind and then wanting to know it's character. But, and a big one, I was only really into the most recent Bond movies (still not a big fan, but my father in law likes it, so...I have watch it) mentioning Halley Berry (there's also a Barbie doll made based on her character), for example, back in 2002.

I don't have this doll, but I had seen it in stores. Very in love with her facial features! Have you notice the black dot right up her right eye ? (I'm not too sure why it's there, the actress does not have it), but matches the face, so just leave it alone.

She's gorgeous and elegant. Her facial features are striking and detailed made. I really liked the great job done with the makeup, the eye, with her false lashes perfectly matching her beautifully and sophisticated styled hair.

 

Her outfit is a glamorous three piece pant suit, where action meet the glamourous lightweight thin Model Muse figure.
