To be honest I'm not too sure if this doll ever came out, I'm may be wrong, please corrected me, i think she didn't, i didn't have much time to do a search on this one, but either way i would love to say that if did, great! she;s a beautiful Indian celebrity and very much deserve a Barbie doll ( haven't you heard Barbie have reach every kid in the world and supposed respect their culture?).I have found some pictures of her, maybe...we don't have one, does someone knows????

This is a "goggled" Indian Barbie Doll, it's her, so that's why i don't think we have one...yet - Is Mattel here? listening to us?

Today, I wanted to take a chance to congratulate this whole community in helping keep this blog going over the past year. Even through hard times, as I walked away from here, when I couldn't think of a post, or when I just simply did not have the time to share and give back to this great community, you were all here.

In here I have made friends, met people, and communicated with such great individuals from all over the world!

Its you, all of you, the community that have been the best part of it: meeting such nice people :-)Well, just like every birthday it's even better when gifts are given - Do you remenber the Barbie Doll and Tammy promotion from Mattel, back in December? - HERE- I actually didn't get it...Mattel gave me something else in instead...

In the mail I receieved this letter from Mattel. I could not place why I would be receiving a letter from Mattel...

At the heading was written, "MATTEL, INC. CONSUMER RELATIONS". It turned out to be a letter regarding that same promotion from December. As the letter went on, it related that due to the heavy volume of submissions, Mattel had run out of the Barbie Doll and Tawny Horse set and was writing to inform me that they would be sending me a replacement set... "Barbie Puppy Water Park".What a cool thing Mattel did! I was thrilled, not only did they send out a nice courtesy letter to let me know I would not be reciving my gift, but they were even willing to replace it!

But... it gets even better...Attached at the bottom of the letter they also enclosed a $5.00 coupon to use towards a next Mattel or Fisher-Price purchase!Wow! What a neat way to give back to us, I was really impressed!So in parting, this has been a wonderful year at Barbie Cafe for the community and Barbie herself! I can't help but thank everyone involved and I can only say "Cheers!" and may the next year be even more the Happiest!Thank you all!

P.S: Wow! 3 years has passed, stay tuned... a new contest is coming pretty soon!!

Vintage Wednesday...

Today, the post is not about Barbie, but still vintage. Not everything is pink, glitter...Barbie world. Sometimes, I think this collectible would take me away from the reality, makes me forget about my own problems and focused on something else.
However, today i wasn't in the mood to search for "Barbie" - I have been a little down...The post it's not vintage, but the song is - For some reason this song was stack in my mind all day...

Anyways, sorry...Things will get better, just a little down today - It's my human side speaking...

As a Kid, I knew her face as an actress, but not as a singer - I grown up watching those American 80's movies in Brazil, big success...I'm not an expert on Barbie , just a big fan and someone who's try to keep up with this doll collectible world.
So, the blog for me is a way to learn from others a little bit more and more each time I read my own collectibles books, online or whatever i can find...I don't think twice if have to go to Salvation Army just to browsing around, for example, where you can find treasures there. Well, my point here is to talk about how surprised i was when i discovered that the first Cher doll is dated back even before I exist... It was not release by Mattel, but by a company called MEGO Corporation, they dominated the action figure market in the 70's. So, looks like Che's and Bobbie Mackie relationship comes from way back on time...huh?

These first dolls were "ugly", considering that Cher always had a beautiful face... I'm not sure how many different ones were made, but o was able to find online most of them - Keep reading...

Yeah, its true, but really, its not what you think, I don't have a Facebook at this moment for personal reasons - I probably should have one, as a lot of things really happen there - to be honest, sometimes I feel a little out of touch when someone says, give me your Facebook name and I tell them, "oh, I don't have a Facebook page..." - any ways, this post is not about me theorizing to get a Facebook account or not, but for a much greater cause... While checking out different content on Barbie, I found a campaign on Facebook:

A Facebook page titled "Beautiful and Bald Barbie! Let's see if we can get it made" was started a few days before Christmas. By Wednesday afternoon, the page had more than 16,000 fans. The goal is to get toy maker Mattel Inc. to create a bald Barbie in support of children with cancer.

Little late i know...Life have been very busy, it's about 2:30 am here and i had some time for myself...Glad to be here...
This doll is a Vintage item from 1966. She was made in 3 versions: red, brunette and blonde, blue eyes, brown eyebrows,eye liner in black, 2 different lips colors - peach or raspberry and some kind of a peach blush to it.Dressed in one piece multicolor diamond print swimsuit and a matching head band she was a good representation of a vintage outfit in a Barbie doll.

When i think about Argentina, no way i can't think about Brazil, those countries are side by side (I may been have some kind of a home sick "attack") - This Doll is one of those creations were you see the country in it, of course, that's how the World collection works - Tango, Spanish, romance, love...i see, she's from Argentina :-)Do you remember the one from Brazil, she looked like a "mulata" - dressed in a carnival outfit - the first word people can mention when I say": I'm from Brazil and I'm very proud of it!

I have decided that I am going to attempt to occasionally launch a segment specifically geared to Barbie's ever loving parents... Mr. and Mrs. Mattel... As does all collectors and fans alike, I get frustrated at little things that I can not always control... I understand that this is why I am here writing and not working at the "Pink Factory", but I am a voice and in the spirit of Barbie's care free life of promoting women and here is mine...

I have an idea that I would love to see come to fruition,

"Dreams of Pink the Barbie Make Over"

Every year or so a doll should be "relaunched" for the fans, this doll needs to be given a make over in the way that is fitting for every Barbie Girl...

If there was a doll that Mattel made for the Barbie line that needed a much deserved make over, I would definitely nominate the Rosie O'Donnell Barbie Doll. By no means am I attacking the celebrity herself for the molding or the likenesses... actually, quite the contrary, by viewing the pictures below you can clearly see the progress that Mattel had made in the continued advancements of the production's line:

The problem with the doll? I understand that at the time of launch for this doll, there were many "trade mark" likenesses and accessories that were picked just for the molding to make this more like the namesake celebrity. The problem stems from the "collapse" of the television show, and the subsequent "re - launch" of the celebrity's public life. In actuality this celebrity "turned her back" on the image and life that the public was "issuing" her... THAT is what makes a Barbie girl.

Ideally I would like there to be a Pink Label, or ulterior Black, Silver, Gold, etc. Label to celebrate the return of this celebrity to the public eye...

In the defense of all parties, I have always and will always believe that "Barbie" is a celebration of the "woman" with respect to all walks of life. I think its high time to cast away the red "nineties" suit and other wise dulled down experience, (perhaps outdated? is a better word), and give this woman a real "Barbie Make Over", one that is deserving of any "friend of Barbie".

My only point to make here that has been a legacy to the original doll is the $5.00 contribution to charity that each sale of the doll amassed. This was a wonderful way to promote not just a celebrity, but also help us, the Barbie fans, give back to the ones whom need the help. If this "Barbie Make Over" really did its job, this is exactly a great point to "rehash" to the doll line and create a very positive feel for a very positive idea...

I went grocery shopping last week and found this "promo" on the Cheerios's cereal box. $10.00 off of the Barbie Camper, i actually have a Barbie camper - an old model - this one would be nice for my collection as well.

P.s: Every time i mentioned my collection i get very frustrated...Everything are on my father-in-law house as my house is so small and i can't keep all "those" items here. I wish i could do more for it, maybe one day when i get a big house... :-(

Vintage Wednesday - 1962 Ken Play Ball

This is a 1962 Ken doll. So, he's molded hair (remember he come out with a flocked hair, just one year before), blue eyes, mauve lips and brown eyebrows. He also had a trademark from Mattel "stamped" on his behind, so you'll know when it's original. This one was the "new" model on a play ball outfit, as far i know baseball was always big on U.S, if he was from Brazil, I'm sure this would be a soccer outfit in instead :-)

Celebrity Monday - Ruth Handler

I think as a good way to start the new year is to remember the mind behind the creation (not to say she designer the first one, but the main idea was hers), not better than celebrate Ruth Handler - The creator of Barbie Doll.
I couldn't find anything, really, about this "celebrity" online, about her "personal" life . She was born on November 4th, 1916, was the co founder of Mattel, was married to Elliot Handler and gave us the greatest doll ( for some of the world population) of all the time.
She passed on April 27, 2002.
I found some pictures of hers online. So, lets take a look?

I like to surf on the Internet (who doesn't on these days...) every so often...and i found this article online. Now, I'm confused...I think this person got confused...

Specifically, this has to be a publicity stunt. Kim knows her every tweet is under the microscope! The woman gets PAID to tweet and name drop, especially when it comes to merchandise. I would think her most benign tweets have some kind of calculated motivation behind them. Hence why if she's tweeting at Barbie, it's not because she's lost her damn mind or had too much egg nog. The woman obviously has a deal goin' with Mattel.

This item is not really a Vintage item, but i decided to place it in, anyways here, as it's from the 80's (geez, Am i calling myself vintage?) It says "For a Special Granddaughter Help Barbie with her Christmas Wardrobe!" on the front. There are 3 dresses and accessories, pants and tops too. This is a Hallmark card with Barbie trademark. Dated 1986.

I used to have a lot Barbie paper dolls as the "real" ones were so expensive and my parents couldn't afford.Anyways i still was a happy kid :-)

Christmas gave me a lot childhood memories( I had some family/childhood talk with friends yesterday...) and i can still feel, just like it's happening now...One of my sisters used to listen a lot "Diana Ross". Geez, this weekend was "crazy". I haven't stop since Friday... Had to finish Christmas shopping, cook something to bring on Christmas evening - i went to one of my friend's house - it was really fun, some kids (i love to be with them - we played video game, i read for them, we sang, we laugh...) around, gifts, talking and most, we were together...it wasn't my blood family, but for me they are. I live away from my "real" family, but i carry them on my heart.Remember, Christmas is not - only - about gifts and food - but also it's a time to stop, pray and think that it was the most important day on the earth - the day that Jesus was born - the day that God sent his only child to give all of us the chance to fix our mistakes and be a "more" human being.I hope you all had a great Christmas with all the people you love, physically or/and by heart...

If you ask me, yesterday, who's Katy Perry, all i would say is "she's a singer", short and dry, i don't know anything else about this girl, i see her on TV sometimes, don't even know what kind of music she singers, anyways, for one thing she was know by me. Mattel created a doll just like her, exclusively in favor of Charity (benefit Project Angel Food - provide food for those afflicted with HIV and AIDS).

The inspiration was "the California girl" music video. Mattel Barbie designer Amy Lee went into great detail on the Barbie doll, which contains 70 hand-painted cupcakes, a glittered candy cane mic and fishnet stockings with embedded Swarovski crystals.

Now i know a little bit more about her...

Go-go is a sub genre associated with funk that originated in the Washington, D.C., area during the mid- 1960s to late-1970s.Inspired by artists such as Chuck Brown, Go-go is a blend of funk, rhythm and blues, and early hip-hop, with a focus on lo-fi percussion instruments and funk-style jamming in place of dance tracks, although some sampling is used. I shop there every so often and had a coupon, that had to be used on that day, so I got two dolls, one for me - because the accessories - and one for the next blog contest (not showing here...)The one i got for me is below:]

I'm not crazy about the "regular" Barbie dolls, if I have to choose i prefer to go with "Bob Mackie"/collectors, accessories (love it!) and furniture pieces ( i guess pretty much every collector). I'm not saying that i don't have it or i wouldn't but it, but i rather appreciate the details on an art type one than the "common ones...Well, anyways...Mattel have change the doll face a lot of times in a year! Bad? it's OK i guess, but I still prefer the old ones, i don't like this too modern style...Feels like, a lot is coming up, that i can't keep up..., i haven't even know how many from the "basic collection" are out there (BTW, great accessories on the line). One more reason to go with the collectible line ones, but hey business is business...just like a new nail polish, lipstick, a blouse, every industry has to innovate i guess.Now, we have the "Stardoll Collection" - i got to least learn about it or I won't even be able to keep a conversation with my niece. These kids today are all about the new toys!! Good luck for me with my adult world responsibilities...

A grande diferenca nessa boneca e o material usado, essa vesao traz um tipo de "vinil" qua nao desbota, sendo o caso das bonecas anteriores, como se tivessem sido manchadas pela acao do tempo, nao esqueca que ela tambem nao tem os furos no solado do pe e o cabelo tem um penteado diferente dos das outras.E bem dificil de identifica-las, mas claro nao impossivel, nada que um bom treino nao resolva...

I have a very much appreciation for dark skin people, nowadays we have a lot of beautiful and famous black people, just to mentioned: Rihanna, Janet Jackson, Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, ... I remember as a kid, listening to "big people" conversation, they would say: it's not common to see dark skin people on TV unless they accept to be the maid, the driver...I'm glad we had a big change on that since them. Now, on the Brazilian TV you can experience a mix of "colors" and races working side-by-side and doing a wonderful job.
But, long time ago, way before that happen in the knowing people universe, black Francie, the first black doll in Barbie's world was introduced, in 1967 and then her friends Christie and Julia and eventually the first "Black Barbie" was introduced in 1980. So, Mattel was way advanced on that i guess...huh?

Looks like they are exact the same, but there's a big difference between #'s 1 and #'s 2 - The first one had holes on the bottom of her feet and shoes to fit the stand. Number 2 had no holes and a different stand.

Barbie's girl talk day: Make up fun with Barbie

Since it's Halloween i decided to play with make up a little bit...Sorry if it's not that great, I'm not a make up artistry, i never went to school for and i do it just for fun. When i received the last Barbie catalog last week something got to me about the Barbie doll in the cover, if I could have the same costume r as her on the catalog cover i would dress like it...as you can do almost anything around Halloween. I even remember, about two years ago, i went to Salem-Ma and i saw a guy "dressed" with a towel around his waist and a shower brush and cap, that was it!

Imagine doing the hair...
Well, since i can't do that, at least i'm going to try to have some fun from it. So, i decided to do a make up based on her make up, of course it's waaay far from look like hers, but i did have some fun doing it and it was the most important part of it!

Since this is the first post for "Vintage Wednesday" was thought would be good to remember where Barbie "Comes from". Is she German or American? Well Lilli was German, Barbie is American.
Lilli first appear as a cartoon in a German newspaper called Bild. She became so popular between adults, as she was a creation based in a curvy gal, who knew what she wanted and how to get it, that the publication began to manufacturing the doll and sell at news stands and cigarettes kiosks.
She was first sold in Germany in august 12, 1955. Her original was the same as Barbie's, rounded and the dolls foot has holes that fit on to a prong of metal. It was accompanied by a miniature copy of the Hamburg newspaper Bild-Zeitung and the cartoon continued to run in the real journal every Sunday.
Well, we all already know that Ruth Handler visiting German saw Lilli and bla, bla, bla...we have Barbie :-)
Mattel acquired the rights to Lilli in 1964, thus her production ceased.
